Micah 1 week

We're one week in and things are going relatively smoothly.  A routine is coming and we've been blessed to have help from Mom and Dad Kilby and Mom Van Drunen.

I'm starting to feel somewhat back to normal.  It's crazy how life changes and now we describe 3 hours of sleep at a time as a "good chunk" :) Micah has been sleeping well at night and seems like a pretty chill personality.  He is also cuter by the day and makes the funniest faces- raising one eyebrow at us while we're talking to him trying to wake him up, gets his tongue going or purses his lips.

Micah Tobias

Micah was born April 4, 2012 at 10:56 pm.  8 lbs, 14 oz and 21 in long.
Micah means "one who is like God" and this our prayer for him- that he would grow in the grace and knowledge of God and by God's grace we will direct him towards God in all things.  Tobias means "God is good."  John and I have learned this attribute of God even more in the last year, and with the arrival of Micah we praise God for His goodness.  Micah is healthy and it was a safe delivery without complications.

happily trucking along

3 weeks to go (more of less depending on baby) and we're rolling right along.  We've been so blessed by the generosity of so many friends and family members.

All tests are going smoothly and Baby seems to be a happy little thing as he/she kicks all around. I'm feeling well and although I'm looking forward to meeting this little one, I'm ok with him/her not showing up just yet.

A couple photos to share.  My cousin's wife, Janet made this cute motorcycle out of diapers and other baby supplies and the other picture are two blankets my Great-Grandmother crocheted.

gettin' ready...

Well, the furniture came so now Baby's room is taking shape. We have a car seat, so Baby can come home from the hospital and now a crib, so there's a place for Baby to sleep.  Two essentials...check and check.
A fresh paint job, too (nantucket breeze- a sagey green)  is bringing it together.

Doctor's visits are going well.  Baby was super active during the test yesterday, bouncing all around, making John and me laugh out loud.

Reality...

is beginning to set in just a bit after having a few baby things appear over the weekend.  A baby will be sleeping in the pack 'n play that's empty right now, we'll use the bath tub and towels and there will be many hours of book-reading I'm sure.

As the physical things appear to help get us prepared, I have to think about the more important part of the preparation we need as parents for all the other parts of raising this baby...like patience and teaching and directing our child towards God with our actions and words that he/she will overhear as well as the ones spoken directly. Not to mention the disciplining that will need to occur that also needs to direct Baby towards God and not his/her own selfishness.  Whew!... there is an awesome task before us but with God's wisdom and by His grace, He'll get us through each step of the journey.

We expect to receive baby furniture tomorrow. I'm looking forward to setting that up and finding places for each of the things so generously given. Pictures to follow.

The twice a week visits to the doctor are going well.  Things are looking good they tell me and Baby seems to be having a great time!  The nurse was having a hard time keeping the heart rate on the monitor because Baby was moving around so much. Maybe I shouldn't eat blueberry pancakes for breakfast before my next visit...

Random thought

Some days it feels like Baby is the ball and my insides are the pinball machine.  But I do love it!
